INSTINTO - ASSOCIAÇÃO PROTETORA DE ANIMAIS DA COVILH÷THURSDAY, 13 OCTOBER 2016

Amigas e amigos da Instinto,

É com enorme tristeza que nos dirigimos hoje a todos vós. Quem tem acompanhado de perto o trabalho da Instinto reconhece o esforço, muitas vezes sobre-humano, a dedicação e o amor que temos consagrado à causa animal. Tem sido uma luta intensa, diária e quase sempre desigual, que temos vindo a travar contra o abandono e os maus tratos aos animais, não só do nosso concelho, mas de outras regiões vizinhas.Começámos do zero, sem experiência, e sem qualquer apoio ou incentivo institucional, e em quatro anos salvámos da rua perto de um milhar de cães e gatos. Contactada por entidades públicas, nomeadamente a GNR, SEPNA E PSP, nunca a Instinto deixou de ajudar ninhadas recém-nascidas, de gatos e cães, que apareceram em caixotes do lixo ou à porta de alguém, assombrados pelo destino, quase certo, de uma morte dolorosa. A nenhum destes animais foi negada ajuda médica, sempre que necessário. A nenhum deles foi negada a possibilidade de viverem em melhores condições, acolhidos por maravilhosas famílias. A nenhum deles foi negada a possibilidade de serem adotados por pessoas responsáveis. A nenhum deles foi negada a dignidade, ainda que, para isso, muitas feridas fossem ficando na estabilidade financeira e humana desta Associação. Alguns destes animais não sobreviveram, outros deixaram-nos enquanto esperavam pela sua oportunidade de serem adotados. Mas, uma coisa é certa, mais de 700 encontraram a sua família definitiva. E os que continuam connosco têm sido tratados com muito carinho, dedicação e ternura, não lhes faltando nada do que precisam, mesmo com as dificuldades com que nos deparamos. A Instinto encontra-se agora no limite das suas capacidades. Temos dívidas nas clínicas veterinárias que não conseguimos pagar. Temos animais com doenças crónicas ou idosos, mas que são felizes, e que nos recusaremos sempre a abater. E agora, temos a triste notícia de que vamos perder duas preciosas Famílias de Acolhimento, que nos acolhem actualmente cerca de 15 cães. Embora aquilo que fazemos seja da responsabilidade do município, continuamos a não ser capazes de sensibilizar a nossa autarquia para os problemas com que temos vindo a lidar e para os quais já não estamos a conseguir ter capacidade de resposta. Será que as recentes alterações decorrentes da aprovação do decreto-lei pelo fim dos canis de abate e as necessárias alterações ao modelo atual farão despertar, ainda que por necessidade, os nossos decisores políticos? Face aos problemas de sobrelotação que se antecipam, estará a CMC disposta a mudar as suas práticas, divulgando os animais do canil municipal para adoção e entregando-os esterilizados/castrados? Estará disposta a recolher, esterilizar e devolver animais de rua com cuidadores identificados? Sabemos que o número de animais no canil municipal, tal como a sua actividade, diminuiu consideravelmente desde que a Instinto existe. Isto significa poupança de dinheiro público. Em troca, e em abono da verdade, a Instinto nunca recebeu 1€ de apoio camarário. Sabemos que estamos a dar um exemplo de boas práticas, ao nos recusarmos a permitir a procriação através dos animais adotados por nós. Sabemos, temos a certeza, que os animais e os seus direitos nunca foram tratados com tanta dignidade como de há 4 anos para cá. Que será que precisamos nós de fazer mais? Quando é que vamos ter a atenção da nossa Câmara? Quando é que vamos receber um agradecimento e um incentivo, por estarmos a fazer o trabalho deles, a custo zero, e de uma forma digna, que retirou a Covilhã do mapa de cidades que estavam nos últimos lugares no que toca ao bem estar dos seus animais? Aparentemente, nunca....Cremos já ter demonstrado aos nossos autarcas que somos capazes. Que queremos lutar. Queremos fazer a diferença. Se não merecemos o apoio deles, quem merecerá? Até ver, nem o Orçamento Participativo que, recordamos, prevê a criação de um Centro de Recolha e Acolhimento Animal (http://www.covilhadecide.pt/op/covilha/projetos/55bb2d3925fd630e001cbf8c), e que foi massivamente votado por aqueles que eles supostamente representam, é uma esperança para a Instinto, pois parece adormecido e mergulhado num silêncio difícil de entender. É por tudo isto que nos dirigimos a vocês, aqueles que, anonimamente, têm permitido que a Instinto possa continuar a salvar animais. Aqueles que fazem os seus donativos sem precisarem de o publicitar. Aqueles que acolhem os nossos cães e os nossos gatos. Aqueles que nos ajudam, seja de que forma for. São vocês os verdadeiros heróis e é graças a vocês que já salvámos tantas centenas de animais. Precisamos, com a máxima urgência, de Famílias de Acolhimento para cães. Até ao final do mês, não teremos onde colocar 15 animais que não têm culpa de ter nascido ou de terem sido abandonados numa cidade que não os respeita. Não podemos entregá-los no Canil Municipal. Todos vocês, que gostam e respeitam a causa animal, sabem o que, eventualmente, lhes aconteceria. Seria o fim da Instinto, já por si tão fragilizada. Precisamos de pequenos terrenos, quintais, ou qualquer outro espaço que possa ser adaptado para o acolhimento de cães. Precisamos de material para obras, ou de patrocínios de empresas que os vendam. Precisamos de ajuda financeira. Sabemos que a responsabilidade não é vossa. Não é. Mas não podemos contar com mais ninguém... E sabemos que são as boas pessoas que são capazes de mudar o mundo ou, pelo menos, de o tornarem um pouco melhor. Obrigada por existirem e por estarem do nosso lado.Prometemos que não iremos desistir nunca.

  This year’s Halloween Doodle follows freshman feline Momo on her mission to rescue her school of magic. Help her cast out mischievous spirits by swiping in the shape of the symbols above the ghosts’ heads. And you’d better pounce fast—the ghost that stole the master spellbook is getting away!

  From the team that created the Magic Cat Academy:
  The inspiration for this year’s cat spell-casting game came from a real-life black cat named Momo that belongs to Doodler Juliana Chen. It seemed like a good opportunity for a cat hero, since the winner of last year’s Candy Cup Doodle was Yellow Witch and her black cat.
  

  
  
  Momo the muse

  The original concept for the game involved a magic cat making a soup that was so good, it raised the dead. Connecting soup to Halloween proved too abstract, so the team shifted to the idea of a wizard school. This opened the door to a more robust world filled with interesting characters and paw-some themes.
  

  
  “Graveyard” concepts included vacuums, candy-eating ghosts, and hiss-worthy exams.

  
  The game includes five levels set in a school environment: the library, cafeteria, classroom, gym, and the building’s rooftop. We had lots of fun ideas for the resident foe of each level, including a chef ghost, a venn diagram ghost, and a big whistle ghost that summons other spirits.

  Doodling for a whole Doodle game was very exciting for us. We had so many ideas for elaborate symbols to draw, like a witch’s hat that would appear on the character’s head after it was drawn! In the end we decided that for a short game against the clock, simple was better. Plans like the “Eiffel Tower spell” were abandoned, and similarly, gag spells didn’t make the cut. Regardless, we loved the process of dreaming up the possibilities.

EUA supports new survey on how universities use learning analytics: "EUA supports new survey on how universities use learning analytics 20 October 2016 Current discussions on learning and teaching innovation often refer to learning analytics as a game-changer in the field, as methods of online student data analysis hold great potential in addressing challenges faced by European higher education institutions. A new survey, supported by EUA and conducted in the framework of the SHEILA project (Supporting Higher Education to Integrate Learning Analytics), aims to provide clarity about this potential by asking universities to what extent they use and/or they are considering to use learning analytics and what their experiences have been.  Institutions that want to participate in the survey, and use the opportunity to reflect on their use of learning analytics, are invited to fill out the project survey questionnaire. This will take about 25 to 30 minutes and should be done by 4 November 2016."

Higher education ‘in danger’ in seven EU countries | THE News: "The special case of Portugal Public funding trends for Portuguese universities are “generally positive”, according to the EUA. It is the only country in southern Europe to see funding increase in line with student numbers. But the country experienced significant budget cuts prior to 2008, so the share of public funding awarded to higher education as a proportion of GDP was low to start with. Portugal’s higher education funding is projected to grow by almost 2 per cent between 2015 and 2016. The longer-term picture is just as bright, with funding up almost 5 per cent between 2008 and 2015. But despite the positive outlook, the EUA points out that funding for universities may not have yet returned to pre-crisis levels. The only other country with a similar funding trend to Portugal is Poland."
