Academic Ranking of World Universities
This ranking is commonly known as the Shanghai Ranking. The ranking covers 500 universities. It provides a composite indicator of university performance, including both research performance and educational performance. In addition to bibliometric data (Web of Science), the ranking also uses data on Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners as well as data on the number of academic staff of universities.
QS World University Rankings
Like the Shanghai Ranking, this ranking offers a composite indicator of the overall performance of a university, which includes both research performance and educational performance. The ranking covers over 900 universities. It is based on a combination of bibliometric data (Scopus), survey data, and data provided by universities and government agencies.
Ranking Web of Universities
This ranking is produced by the Cybermetrics Lab of the National Research Council (CSIC) in Spain. The ranking covers more than 20,000 higher education institutions from all over the world, using a combination of webometrics and bibliometrics indicators. The ranking aims to capture the overall performance of universities not only in traditional missions such as teaching and research but also in new missions such as knowledge and technology transfer, community engagement, and internationalization.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings
The methodology of this ranking is somewhat similar to the methodology of the QS World University Rankings. The ranking covers almost 1000 universities and is based on a combination of bibliometric data (Scopus), survey data, and data provided by the universities themselves.
U-Multirank
U-Multirank, launched in May 2014, is a multidimensional ranking of higher education institutions produced by a consortium led by the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany. CWTS participates in the consortium and provides the bibliometric statistics included in U-Multirank. U-Multirank aims to compare the performance of universities across a range of different activities. It offers statistics on about 1500 higher education institutions worldwide.
