EUA Solutions concludes evaluations of the management of doctoral education at Wageningen University: "EUA Solutions concludes evaluations of the management of doctoral education at Wageningen University November 19 2015 In spring 2015, EUA Solutions, one of EUA’s special membership services, concluded an evaluation exercise at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. The purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the management of doctoral education at the university. Based on a self-evaluation report, a team of four European experts conducted interviews over three days with different groups of stakeholders to assess the structures, the processes and the goals of the Wageningen PhD programme. The Salzburg Principles and Recommendations, the team’s experience of European best practice as well as relevant EU policies provided the reference framework for the team’s work. The flexible approach offered by EUA Solutions allowed for tailor-made evaluations focusing on the specific needs and requirements of the university. The outcomes of the evaluation were summarised in a comprehensive report, in which the EUA team gave practical recommendations on how to further improve the provision and the management of doctoral education. “We found this a very valuable exercise,” says Professor Johan van Arendonk, Dean of Science at Wageningen University. “The EUA team thoroughly evaluated the whole trajectory of our PhD programme, from recruitment and admission to graduation. It brought us insights beyond the usual research evaluations.
